    Thank you cards fail

I’m sitting here writing thank you cards to family and friends for coming to our wedding this past March and for the many, many blessings they poured out on my husband and I in celebration of our marriage. And for anyone that’s counting, that would be 5 months after the fact. I believe some etiquette sites say that you have six months to get out your thank you cards before you’re officially a rude, ungrateful worm in the sights of all whom you love and hold dear… And, while I appreciate that generous timeline, I still think that people would value hearing pretty quickly after the fact about all the…

    The Most Important Thing

Its been quite a while since I posted. Life has been extremely busy and full of changes. I have changed jobs, gotten married, become a step mom and a dog mom, moved into our first home, and even more since the spring. Life has been full of a dizzying array of new routines, new pathways, new ways of doing life. I’m thankful for these tremendous blessings and I’m also thankful for the considerable amount of spiritual growth that has occurred as a result of the pressing of new circumstances and outside-the-comfort-zone situations. Hillsong came out with a new song a few months ago and at first I liked it just…

The Key to Facing the Impossible

When the waters of life start swirling around me, I often react by trying to taken more and more control over a situation. A problem arises and I want to squash it. Of course, I think I’ve got the perfect plan to do so. But in reality when I do this, my life starts looking like a very unsuccessful game of whack-a-mole. I’m hammering away at all of the problems popping up, but every strike misses the mark and I’m left a little more tired with each swing. And just like in a good game of whack-a-mole, I have become hyper focused on the object that I’m trying to hammer…

    Louder & Stronger Still

Let’s imagine today that you are in a little wooden boat, floating through the great waters of the ocean. On the horizon, dark clouds build and advance across the sky, until you are shrouded in darkness. Rain begins to pour down upon you and the seas rise up wildly around you. Water throws your boat through the air. Water fills your boat to the point of sinking. Water whips against your boat, threatening to tear it apart. These images of the great ocean tempest are a figurative picture of the storms of our lives. Here we find ourselves, floating along in our own little world only to be slowly crept…

    In every thing, give thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV) “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” My big word for 2018 is “thankful”. I’m hoping to cultivate a greater atmosphere of gratitude in my life. To awaken with fresh eyes to the many blessings all around me. Why? I guess because I am starting to really believe that the more I respond to God in every circumstance with thanksgiving, the happier, more peaceful, and more positive my whole life will be. If I can have a True-Confessions-of-A-Real-Life-Christian moment with you right now, I have to admit that I used to think on some level that…

Everyday choices and our Big God

As I’ve entered a busier season of my life in the past few weeks, it seems impossible to sit down and find the time to write in a thorough way about the beauty and wonder of God. But I’ve decided that even though I don’t have the ability to write longer posts right now, it is still worth sharing with the little time that I do have. Below is a little snippet about God’s work in my heart, I hope the reading of it lifts your heart and your face: There is great hope and responsibility in the fact that we get to choose how we face the challenges of…
